News & Articles Acropolis Rally Legends: The Start!
In addition to the Sporting and Regularity categories, the start signal was also given for the Legends category participants of the Historic Acropolis Rally. From the ramp set up by OMAE under the shadow of the Acropolis’ Sacred Rock, the crews in this category made their passage, ready to begin their adventure on the rally’s Special Stages on Saturday morning. This rally category is open to Category A and N cars with an FIA Recognition Date from January 1, 1991, to December 31, 2001, marking the fourth round of the Legends Cup with an increased multiplier of 3. The event was honored by the presence of Deputy Minister of Sports, Giannis Vroutsis, who flagged off the teams. Among the attendees were Attica Region Road Safety Consultant Konstantinos Markouizos, Athens Deputy Mayor of Infrastructure Andreas Grammatikogiannis, Police Brigadier General Pinelopi Falkou representing the Hellenic Police, Nikos Vasileiou, PR Manager of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEA), and the Executive Director of Motorsport Greece, Aristotelis Vavougios. Also present at the start were OMAE President Dimitris Michelakakis, AMOTOE President Maria Chesmeli, Historic Acropolis Rally Organizing Committee Chair Fotini Psarrakou, as well as representatives from the race’s sponsors.
The competition kicks off on Saturday morning, with crews tackling five special stages before reaching Itea, where they will prepare their spotlights for the night passage through the famed “Karoutes.” Sunday’s schedule includes five more Special Stages, with the race’s finish set for the afternoon in Itea.
The rally’s main sponsor is SEAJETS, which operates the world’s largest high-speed fleet, serving a total of 50 ports and over 400 connections from Piraeus, Rafina, Lavrio, Crete, Thessaloniki, and Volos to destinations in the Cyclades and the Aegean. SEAJETS has been active in the shipping industry since 1989 and officially entered the passenger ferry sector in 2002, continuing to expand with a state-of-the-art fleet of high-speed vessels.
