News & Articles Acropolis Rally Legends – Leg 1: Comfortable Lead for Christodoulou-Petropoulos!
Achilleas Christodoulou and Nikos Petropoulos are leading the Acropolis Rally Legends in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI after completing the first leg. This category features Category A and N cars with FIA homologation from January 1, 1991, to December 31, 2001. The race serves as the fourth round of the Legends Cup, with a high coefficient of 3.
The 20-year-old Achilleas Christodoulou, guided by the experienced Nikos Petropoulos, secured a comfortable win in the opening stage, building a solid lead over their rivals. Although a gearbox issue in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI cost them some time in Akraifnio, they pushed hard in the night stage and aim to retain their lead until the race’s end. Polish drivers Pawel Molgo and Maciej Marton, competing for the first time with a Subaru Impreza, are in second place and expressed their enthusiasm for Greece’s special stages. Rounding out the top three are Kyriakos and Dimitris Vytogiannis, also in a Subaru Impreza, who aim to hold their position and make it to the podium for the second consecutive year. A persistent gearbox issue in their Subaru Impreza prevented Dionysis Mavrodis and Dimitris Koumbotis from competing at full potential on Saturday, placing them fourth. Following closely are Stavros Anamolidis and Andreas Christodoulakis in a Subaru Legacy 4WD Turbo. Last year’s race winners have switched roles this year, faced no issues on Saturday, and are eager to reach the finish ramp on Sunday.
The first two-wheel-drive crew is Nikos Papachristopoulos and Nikos Xanthos in a Toyota Yaris, with Nikos Moschopoulos-Fotis Alexandropoulos in second in a Toyota Yaris. Manolis Panagiotopoulos and Manos Achtidas, also in a Yaris, are in third place. An early broken axle forced Dimitris Kattis and Vasilis Kougias (Skoda Felicia Kit Car) to retire, but they plan to rejoin in the second leg under superally rules.
On Sunday, the race menu includes five Special Stages, concluding in Itea in the afternoon.
The race is sponsored by SEAJETS, Avis Car Rental, Nissan Halkias, Clevermedia.gr, SP tableware, and Superfast Ferries. The organizers receive valuable support from the Region of Attica, the Regional Units of Boeotia and Phocis, and the municipalities of Athens, Thebes, Livadeia, Delphi, Orchomenos, Aliartos, Nafpaktos, and Ancient Olympia.
